Homemade Christmas Decorations

I mentioned in a previous post that as a family we are using Journey to Bethlehem which is an advent packet with scripture, song choices, and activities to follow through the month of December.  Last night our activity was to make cinnamon dough ornaments. This was very easy and it made the house smell wonderful. Once they dry we will have more ornaments for our alternative Christmas tree. The recipe is very simple: 1 cup cinnamon, 1 cup applesauce, and 1 tablespoon of glue. Mix it all together and roll out on a counter or wax paper. We had to add a little more cinnamon so it wasn't too sticky to roll. After rolling and cutting the ornaments will need to dry for 24 hours before hanging. They well be very fragile so store them with care. The cinnamon smell should stay for a while, but when gone can had a drop or two of cinnamon essential oil to liven it back up. We really enjoyed making these last night.

We made some of these last year, and they were the first thing I could smell when I opened the Christmas ornaments this year!
