Diane Flynn Keith the author of Papa's Pearls is an education specialist that helps homeschooling parents navigate their children from preschool through high school. On her Homefires website there is a plethora of information available for beginning and veteran homeschoolers. Diane Flynn Keith is the author of Carschooling, Unschool Your Teen, and the email subscription of Clickschooling. I was asked to review her new book, Papa's Pearls: A Father's Gift of Love and Wisdom to His Children and Granchildren through the TOS Review Crew.

photo papaspearls_zps509cd1df.jpgDiane is an alternative education specialist, parent coach, and author. She coaches many parents through private consultations and speaking engagements. Diane enjoys helping families reach their full potential and learn how to educate their children outside the four walls of a school. Diane's newest book is near and dear to her heart. Papa's Pearls almost feels like a love letter to her father. We all have special people in our lives, but some of us get to experience extraordinary people that we share our lives with. That is the type of person "Papa" seems to have been. Papa's Pearls starts out with a narrative about Papa's life. What his family was like, his life as a child and young adult, and some of the historical times he lived through growing up. Each new chapter of Papa's Pearls highlights "pearls" of wisdom, advice or sayings that her father said to his children on a daily basis. Here are a few examples: Everyone Deserves a Second Chance, Tell Yourshelf You Like It and my personal favorite, I Love You, You Know that Right?  From Diane's writings you get a feel for what a truly loving and extraordinary man Papa was.

I read this book myself and may decide to have Grace read it in her high school years. Many situations in the book point to how we as parents and human beings should treat one another. This is a small soft cover book of 112 pages. I was able to read it over a few days. I found this to be a very encouraging read with sound advice on how to lead a daily, joyful life. Papa seemed to be a wonderful man who loved his family and life. If all parents treated their children and fellow man half as good as Papa did the world would definitely be a better place. We truly need more Papas in this world. Papa's Pearls can be purchased for $14.97 plus $7.00 for shipping and handling through Papa's Pearls Homepage. This book was originally written for parents, but it could also be used as a read aloud for children 10 years and older. The author recommends the parent read the book first then decide which portions to share with their children. It was very interesting for me to read about certain times in history that Papa participated in like World War II, the Great Depression, and the Civilian Conservation Corps. These are all times in history we have studied this year.
